RECORDSADVICE DAILY JOURNAL FRIDAY, APRIL 22, 2016 I A3 Freddie Ray Sutton SWEENY, Texas -Freddie Ray Sutton, 71 of Sweeny, Texas, passed away in his home DEAR ABBY: My hus band, "Ed," and I are in our 40s. We both work, and Ed often puts in more than 60 hours a week. My in-laws, in their 60s, are both in good health, retired and well-off financially. They expect weekly gatherings 'K unless THEY of those mandatory family visits, you and your husband should tell his parents what you have told me. Unless you explain to them that they have you on a schedule that doesn't permit you to spend alone time with your children or each other they won't get it.

Family get-togethers are supposed to be pleasant for all, not mandatory. And if your in-laws can afford the expense, they should hire a handyman to help them and not impose upon their son. performing weekly chores such as painting, gardening, window washing, etc. These take more than six hours on Sundays, in addition to dinner. My in-laws also insist on yearly family vacations.

Because of this we have little time alone with our teens or each other. I don't think all these gatherings should be mandatory. Please help. This is hurting our marriage. HIGHLY STRESSED IN PENNSYLVANIA DEAR HIGHLY STRESSED: During one with Rev.

DEAR ABBY In warmer weather, my mother-in-law guilt-trips Ed into DEAR DOCTOR I've heard that drinking red wine, or any alcoholic beverage, in moderation is "heart -healthy." Is it true, and is red wine any healthier than other alcoholic beverages DEAR READER: There are many stud- DR. KOMAROFF ies of the two ques tions you ask. As for the first question, most studies have found that moderate drinkers are less likely to develop Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. That's when moderate drinkers are compared either to non-drinkers or to heavy drinkers. "Moderate drinkers" refers to men who have an average of one to two alcoholic drinks per day, and women who have an average of one drink per day.

The difference between men and women is because women metabolize alcohol somewhat differently from men. A study published in 2015 from Harvard Medical School and other institutions analyzed results from nearly 15,000 people. The study lasted nearly 25 years. No one had heart failure at the DEAR HARRIETTE: One of my friends is a gorgeous woman. I always appreciate her beauty inside and out but have been having an issue with some of the photos she chooses to decorate her home with.

She has done many nude photo shoots. These photo shoots are HARRIETTE COLE with hired photographers, so they are solely in her possession. However, she hangs nude portraits of herself by her fireplace, in up- beginning of the study. By the end of the study, however, some did. But moderate drinkers were 20 percent less likely than non-drinkers or heavier drinkers to develop heart failure.

This positive effect of moderate drinking was somewhat stronger in men than in women. The study looked primarily at heart failure, and not at other types of heart problems. Now to your second question, about whether red wine is a more heart -healthy type of alcoholic drink than other alcoholic beverages. Here, I'd say the evidence is less clear. A study reported in late 2015 got a lot of attention in the media for showing that red wine is heart -healthy.

In fact, that study did not really compare red wine to all other types of alcoholic beverages. The study involved over 200 adults who were at high risk for heart disease because they had Type 2 diabetes. Participants were assigned at random to drink 5 ounces (two-thirds of a cup) of either red wine, white wine or mineral water each day. The drinks were provided for free, to encourage study participants to drink as they were as -signed by the study to do. After about two years, stairs hallways and even in her bedroom.

I myself don't have a problem with this, but I have two boys and don't want them seeing my friend nude. I try to not take my boys over to her house frequently, and she has recently started questioning where they are. I never want my children thinking that nude bodies are something to be ashamed of; I just do not want them seeing my friend in the nude. How can I tactfully communicate this to my friend? I don't want her thinking I don't support her shoots. Don't Look Too Close, Philadelphia the red wine drinkers had higher HDL cholesterol cholesterol), lower ratios of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol, and fewer markers of "metabolic syndrome" (a cluster of conditions that increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes), compared to the mineral water drinkers.

Each of these changes has been linked to lower rates of heart disease. However, the study was too short to determine if heart disease rates were actually lowered. Interestingly, the white wine drinkers had somewhat different beneficial effects. Compared to the mineral water drinkers, the white wine drinkers had lower blood sugar levels, lower levels of triglyceride fats and less insulin resistance. Each of these changes, too, has been linked to lower rates of heart disease.

But again, the study was too short to determine if heart disease rates were actually lowered. To make a long story short, moderate drinkers have heart benefits, compared to non-drinkers or heavier drinkers. Heavier drinking puts the heart (and other organs) at risk. It's not clear that red wine is superior to other alcoholic beverages. DEAR DON'T LOOK TOO CLOSE: Be upfront with your friend.

Tell her that you feel uneasy about having your sons view nude pictures of her. While you certainly think that she is beautiful and that it is her prerogative to display these pictures if she chooses, explain that you are uncomfortable about your sons seeing someone they know in the nude. Navigating sexuality with children can be a challenge and you are doing the best you can. For you, that means limiting their exposure. If she gets upset, so be it.

You have every right to limit what your boys see. High Dressing Low Dressing 76.50-78.00 65.00-70.00 2016, having reached the age of fifty eight years, six months, and fifteen days.
