WALL STREET TODAY NEW YORK (AP) Stocks were modestly higher in early trading Wednesday as Wall Street awaited a decision from the Federal Reserve on interest rates. Technology names were driving the gains. In morning trading on Wall Street, the Nasdaq composite index was up 56.93 at 3,915.89. Theresa Whites STE. GENEVIEVE Theresa Grace (DeVincent) Whites, 73, of Ste. Genevieve, passed away June 27, 2000, at the Parkland Health Center. She was born on July 22, 1926, at Lake Providence, LA, the daughter of the late Briavvgo and Mary (Maggio) DeVincent. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James; and by a sister, Marie Kyzar.

Mrs. Whites was a homemaker. In earlier years she was an avid square dancer and was a member of the Duck and Dive Square Dance Club of Rolla and of the Happy Squares Club of St. James. On July 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Clarence Whites, who survives.

She is also survived by her daughters: Lee Suarez and husband, John of St. Louis; Patricia Parker and husband, Randy of Leawood, KS and Cindy Whites and Tommy Stephenson of Grandview, MO; one sister, Gracie (Mrs. Otto) King; one brother, Joe DeVincent and wife, Clara. Also surviving are four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A memorial service will be held Friday at 4 p.m.

Louis. Born April 26, 1945, in Madison County. Preceded by father, Theodore Walker; sister, Ruby Clubb. Member, Carpenter's Union and The Equestrian Association. Survivors: mother, Goldie 'Clark' Walker, Fredericktown; daughters: Barb 'Mrs.

J.R.' Davis, Cape Girardeau; Katrina 'Mrs. Aaron' Luna, Rockaway Beach, Missouri; Jeannie Walker, Farmington; step-daughter, Laura 'Mrs. Joe' Kile, Farmington; sisters: Marie Smith, Fredericktown; Brenda Holman, Marquand; Linda 'Mrs. Ronnie' Cooper, Fredericktown; brother, Raymond Belfield BONNE TERRE Raymond Belfield, 83, of Bonne Terre, passed away June 26, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Pansy C.

Belfield; two sons, Ray and Donald Belfield; three daughters: Dorothy Yount, Carolyn Agent and Dana Rousan; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:30 -9 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home, Potosi. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Potosi United Methodist Church.

Papinta Knowles FARMINGTON John Knowles, 93, of Farmington, passed away June 27, 2000, at the Parkland Health Center. She was born on May 31, 1907, at Flat River, MO, the daughter of the late John and Birdie (Mitchell) Knowles.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harley L. Knowles; by a nephew, John "Mack" Knowles; and by niece, Roseann Knowles. Before her retirement, she was supervisor of the art department of the Fox School System. She had organized the Writers Guild in Jefferson County. She had many articles and stories published throughout the years.

She was an accomplished artist. Her paintings were shown in various exhibits. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington, where she had taught Sunday School for 22 years. She is survived by a brother, C. Lester Knowles of Farmington; by a nephew, Gary L.

Knowles and wife, Barbara of Farmington; by two nieces, Darlene Knowles-Daily (Mrs. Kenneth) of Weaverville, CA and Mary (Mrs. Larry) Englerth of Sioux Falls, ND; by eight great nieces and nephews; by two step nieces and by two step grand nieces. Also surviving are several close friends and other relatives. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

at the Cozean Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Cozean Memorial Chapel with Dr. David Webster officiating. Burial will follow at the St.

Gladys Blount POTOSI Gladys Blount, 85, of Potosi, passed away June 26, 2000, in the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis. Bessie Koonce DESLOGE Bessie Louree Koonce, 87, of Desloge, passed away June at NHC HealthCare in Desloge. She was born October 28, in Nacogdoches, Texas, daughter of the late Dee and Allene (Bentley) Pace. Also preceded by husband, Clarence Koonce; one son and one daughter, in infancy. Member, First Baptist Church in Esther. Survived by: two daughters, Sammye Koonce of Park Hills and Patsy (Rev.

H. Lou) Barton of Park Hills; brother, Tommy Pace of Texas; sister, Audrey Saldana of Texas; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel in Desloge with Rev. H. Lou Barton officiating.

Great-grandparent is Johanna Bahr of Crystal City. Zachary Murphy Charity Wilson of Belleview and Patrick Murphy of Springfield, MO are the parents of a son born June 1 at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. He weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces and was named Zachary Ryon. Grandparents are Denis Murphy of Farmington, Janet Murphy of Farmington and Joe and Kay Wilson of Belleview. Great-grandparents are Jim Murphy of Park Hills, Gene Smith of Park Hills, and Francis Cash of Bonne Terre.
